Couple make a 'midnight' marriage last a lifetime

The license says Mildred and Dalton Moores were married Aug. 2, 1947. That's not exactly correct, acknowledged the couple, better known as Millie and Denny, a week before their 60th anniversary.

Find out why the Preacher moved clocks forward to make wedding legal.

Man eats 50-year-old chicken for golden wedding anniversary

A sentimental husband in Denton, Greater Manchester, has celebrated his golden wedding anniversary by eating a 50-year-old can of chicken.

Les Lailey had been saving the tin of Buxted Whole Cooked Chicken in Jelly from a buffet he and his bride Beryl received as a wedding gift – in 1956. They kept hold of the tin through numerous house moves, explaining to the BBC: “I always said 'on my 50th wedding anniversary I'm going to eat that chicken' – so I did.”

I guess the up side is, he lived to tell about it!

Queen and Prince Philip plan 2nd honeymoon for 60th

The Queen and Prince Philip are planning a second honeymoon abroad to mark their 60th wedding anniversary.

Philip will take the Queen on a mini-break to Malta - the only place apart from Britain where they have lived together - to mark their diamond wedding anniversary in November.

The Duke, 86, and the Queen, 81, who rarely go on holiday outside Britain despite being among the world's greatest travelers, have decided to make an exception this year and return to the Mediterranean island where they were once so happy.

They plan to be there to celebrate their wedding anniversary on November 20.

"This will be a private holiday. Malta has always had a special place in the heart of Her Majesty and Prince Philip. I am sure it will be a very special trip for them." They are only expected to visit the island for "a few days".

Princess Elizabeth, she lived with Philip in Malta between 1949 and 1951, when it was still a British Protectorate and the prince was stationed there with the Royal Navy.

They are expected to share a number of "private days" there together ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Uganda, which will also be attended by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Sisters share a combined 150 years of wedded bliss

Sisters Ginger Heft, Barbara Culver and Jane LaGue each celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary within the last year or so. So we just had to ask: How did they do it?

The former Hodes girls grew up in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic parish, graduated within a year of each other from St. Teresa’s Academy and served as each other’s bridesmaids.

By happenstance, all three got married at St. Francis between April 1956 and May 1957. That was back in the day when d-i-v-o-r-c-e spelled scandal.

As brides of the ’50s, they made up their own relationship rules as they went along. And it worked for them. Maybe, then, this is the secret to a long and happy marriage: Don’t overthink it.

Here are their thoughts:

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban

NICOLE Kidman says she and husband Keith Urban are still very much in love, despite some setbacks in the year since their wedding.

In an exclusive one-on-one chat from her Darling Point home in Sydney yesterday, Kidman said the past few months working in Australia and spending time with her husband had been blissful.

The pair toasted their one-year wedding anniversary in the north Queensland town of Bowen last month.

In a double celebration, Urban surprised his wife with a romantic fireworks display on Flagstaff Hill for her 40th birthday, which was five days earlier.

Oklahoma Couple Celebrates Their 80th Wedding Anniversary

A Green Country couple celebrates a marital milestone, 80 years together. Roy and Bertha Adams marked their eight decades of marriage with a family celebration. The couple says the key to longevity is a cool temper. The two claim they have rarely fought during their marriage, and as a result, they are now closing in on a world record.

With five generations of family there to snap pictures and share cake, the couple marked 80 years of what they say has been a stress-free union.

"Haven't had no trouble of any kind, raised five children, and they're all still doing good,” said Roy Adams.

The couple married back on July 18, 1927 in Wewoka, Oklahoma. After surviving the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, the couple moved to Pryor in 1944. Roy Adams opened a barber shop, where he worked until he retired in the 80's. Bertha Adams stayed by his side the whole time.

"They've worked in their gardens, mowed their yards, go to church every Sunday, it's amazing to see them, 101 years old,” said great-granddaughter Valeria Smith.

On their 50th anniversary, the couple was given a plaque, on their 70th, a certificate from the state. Now they may be awarded a world record. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the world's longest marriage was 80 years, 15 days. Roy and Bertha Adams will eclipse that in less than two weeks.

Congratulations to this amazing couple. Read more about Roy and Bertha Adams

Wedding vows have taken this couple through thick and thin

What an adorable and amazing story...

Mabel and Frenis Hoffman of Frederick celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary Monday.

Mabel is 84; Frenis, 86.

"I had to wait for Mabel to turn 16 to marry her," Frenis said.

They met in Cumberland. "She was out on the porch all dolled up in a snowsuit," Frenis said. "I didn't have nerve enough to ask her out."

He sent his brother to ask if she'd like to go sleigh riding. Mabel's talent for "belly-wamping" won his heart.

"The guy steering is on the bottom of the sled," Frenis explained. "Others jump on top."

The loss of control on an ice patch and crash into a telephone pole only added to his fondness for the memory, Frenis said.

"After that, I asked her out," he said. "I asked her to go to different places -- movies, walks. I was 17, she was 15."

He proposed to her with a Spears Jewelry stone that cost him $29.95. She still has it.

For their wedding, he wore a suit from the One Price Only clothing store, a place where all suits sold for the same price. She wore her favorite color -- blue. In those days, women selected bridal gowns they could wear for multiple occasions.

Smoke alarm saves Columbia couple on 50th Wedding Anniversary

After a long day spent preparing for their 50th wedding anniversary, a Columbia couple awoke early Saturday morning to blaring smoke alarms. According to a news release from the Columbia Fire Department, a fan had sparked a fire in the basement.

Veryl and Margie Freese fell asleep Friday around 11 p.m. in their house at 1208 Longwell Drive. About an hour and a half later Veryl saw smoke coming from a basement bedroom.

The couple was able to escape with their poodle, Nala, without suffering any personal injuries.

“They really had a good attitude about the whole thing,” said Battalion Chief Steven Sapp. “They’ve been through 50 years of marriage with ups and downs, and they’re looking at this as another challenge in their life.”

Sapp said had it not been for the working smoke alarms the couple could very well have continued to sleep and suffered from smoke inhalation or from their bedroom collapsing into the basement.

Still the one: man surprises wife with wedding and dream car

Barb Scott thought she was going to an emergency meeting at her church Friday evening before heading to dinner in Columbus with her husband to celebrate their wedding anniversary.

"I had no idea. I can't believe he was able to keep all of this a secret," Barb Scott said as she wiped away tears.

Barb's husband, Capt. Greg Scott of the Bucyrus Fire Department is a romantic. He surprised his wife of 25 years with a full-blown dream wedding Friday at Victory in Truth Ministries.

Princess Diana Tribute

Princes William and Harry were on hand at London's Wembley Stadium on Sunday for a star-studded pop concert in memory of their mother, Princess Diana, on what would have been her 46th birthday.

The brothers greeted singer Nelly Furtado and 1980s chart-toppers Duran Duran, two of the acts taking the stage to remember Diana almost 10 years after her death in a Paris car crash.

The princess died Aug. 31, 1997, along with her boyfriend Dodi Fayed and their driver when their Mercedes crashed inside the Pont d'Alma tunnel, while media photographers pursued them.

The memorial concert, organized by her sons, features music from some of Diana's favorite acts, including Tom Jones, but will also host younger performers including Kanye West, P. Diddy, Joss Stone and Lily Allen.

The two princes were scheduled to address the 65,000-strong crowd from the stage at some point during the show. In an interview with the British Broadcasting Corp., William, 25, admitted to nervousness.

"We'll probably be gibbering wrecks by the end of it," he said.
