Young lovebirds who proved the doubters wrong
Joan Booth did not waste any time in getting together with Ken Wiltshire after he was dumped by his girlfriend. The pair immediately clicked at the age of 14, and by 16 they were engaged and planning their wedding.
They wed at St Mary's Church, Fratton, when they were both 18 on March 22, 1958, knowing members of their families thought they were too young and the marriage would not last.
But they proved them wrong and are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.
Mrs Wiltshire, 68, said: 'We've shown anyone who doubted us.We just clicked as soon as we met.'
Unable to afford a honeymoon, Mrs Wiltshire borrowed £5 from her bridesmaid, and the newly-weds went to London for two nights and stayed in a B&B.
