65th wedding anniversary couple's card.....and apology from the Queen
A couple celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary have received a card from the Queen – and an apology. Reginald and Edith Sparkes, who were both born in Luddenden and attended Wainstalls School, received a card of congratulations from Buckingham Palace.
But it has been followed by an apology. Unfortunately, the Queen's staff made a mistake and spelled the couple's name incorrectly as Sparkles.
A Buckingham Palace spokes-man told the Courier he was sorry for the mistake and if the family returned the card a replacement would be issued.
